EXPLORE WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY ROUTES AND FACILITIES ACROSS NEWCASTLE

At Newcastle Tour Company, responsible travel isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a commitment woven into everything we do. Through our partnership with Ecologi, we’ve already taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint by funding tree planting and climate projects across the globe.

Now, we’re thrilled to support their latest initiative: Seagrass Restoration & Research.

Why Seagrass Matters

seagrass

Seagrass meadows are often called the “lungs of the sea”. They capture carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests, provide vital nurseries for marine life, and help protect coastlines from erosion. Despite their importance, seagrass meadows have been disappearing at an alarming rate due to pollution, climate change, and coastal development.

Restoring these ecosystems is one of the most effective ways to combat climate change while protecting biodiversity.

Our Pledge

As part of our ongoing sustainability journey, we’re proud to announce our goal: by the end of 2025, Newcastle Tour Company will help restore between 1m² and 3m² of seagrass meadow here in the UK.

This may sound like a small patch, but every square metre restored provides a lasting positive impact:

  • Absorbing and storing carbon dioxide

  • Creating a safe haven for fish, shellfish, and other marine species

  • Supporting healthier, more resilient coastlines

Travel with Purpose

Climate Positive Workforce

Every tour you take with us contributes to these efforts. When you explore Newcastle, Northumberland, or Durham with our guides, you’re not only experiencing the region’s rich culture and landscapes — you’re also supporting a greener, more sustainable future.

We’re excited to keep you updated on this journey and share milestones as our seagrass meadow grows. Together, we can make travel a force for good.
