THE NORTH OF ENGLAND: A PERFECT PLACE FOR YOUR STAYCATION & SHORT BREAK

What a fantastic way to see some of the great cities across the North. Let’s find out a little more about them here.
Liverpool was the world’s most important trading port and is a city steeped in maritime history. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, UNESCO City of Music and a vibrant centre for contemporary visual arts. Find out more about Liverpool or book one of our fantastic tours, visit Liverpool Tour Company or Fab 4 Taxi Tours.
No introduction needed for this one… Newcastle and Gateshead are located on the River Tyne, former home to Britain’s ship building industry and coal mining and a beacon of the North of England’s pioneering spirit. Amazing exhibits, live performances, displays of innovation and new artworks feature in many landmark buildings such as ‘BALTIC’, a former flour mill, now home to contemporary art.
Manchester is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Witness the role of the working-classes who powered the world’s first industrial city on the city’s legendary Taxi Tours or take a gastronomic adventure, sampling the food and drink hot spots with an insight onto the city’s past, present and future. Why not book one of our Manchester tours such as our “Buzz Around Manchester Walking Tour” or “Original Manchester Taxi Tour”?
Hull sits on the England’s East coast and was a significant fishing and trading port and medieval maritime city. Former home to poet Philip Larkin and British politician William Wilberforce who led the abolition of slavery.
Leeds was a major centre for the trading and production of wool and this trading history extends to its fame as a retail mecca to this day. The recently restored Victorian shopping arcade, ‘Victoria Quarter’, houses local and national boutiques and brands, Kirkgate market is Europe’s largest indoor market and an international ‘street food hub’ and Leeds ‘Corn Exchange’, a Grade 1 listed building, is home to independent local retailers, tasty eateries and regular vintage markets under its domed roof.
